Raymond
F. Williams, President of US Technology Corporation, secured a patent
on May 2, 2006 for a new method of making a polymeric blast media and
a product of this method. With its ongoing research and innovations,
US Technology has continued to lead the industry in providing new blasting
media and services to its many customers, the largest being the United
States Air Force.
William’s invention relates to using nano-structure
polymer composite materials in an abrasive blasting media to remove
organic coatings from substrates. This patented method produces a
media which can be used in preparation of surfaces prior to coating.
Whereas the
industry has come a long way from when coatings were removed utilizing
harsh chemicals that swelled the paint, there was still a need for
a better blasting media that would produce better results in less
time and with more accuracy. US Technology’s new patented method
of making a polymeric blasting media accomplishes what the previous
medias lacked.
The invention provides a polymeric blasting media which is more cost
effective due to the more rapid removal of coatings with greater efficiency.
The new polymeric blasting media greatly reduces the risk of damage
to metals on composite substrates and has a much higher degree of durability
than previous blasting medias.
“Our new method of producing a polymeric blasting media fills the ongoing need
in the media blasting industry, particularly with regards to the need for a
more rapid and less damaging media material,” said Ray Williams. “The
increase in efficiency of this new media is up to four times faster
than traditional polymers and its durability is double that of prior
medias."
US Technology Corporation has a long history of being an industry
leader in media blasting for aerospace and defense divisions. US
Technology pioneered the concept of using dry plastic media blasting
as opposed to harsh chemicals. They have extended the use of plastic
media blasting from just aircraft to include electronics, ships,
vehicles, and buildings.
With headquarters and a state of the art testing facility in Canton,
Ohio and facilities in Macon, Georgia and Middletown, Delaware, US
Technology Corporation is a national and international supplier.
